A long kiss goodbye to a beloved series with humor, surprises, and reveals in a SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
The series finale home video had its work cut out for it wrapping a show with many great characters and storylines for a series that premiered in 2004 on Adult Swim and is available now. Luckily Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer deliver beyond our fan dreams.
It’s a delightful pandora’s box that is packed with adventure, humor, and an unexpected surprising touching finale that ties back to Daddy Venture. The movie follows the boys navigating betrayal separately as the guilt and secrets of one and the other see a new way to move past it by fixating on finding a new connection. Not that our OG Doc Venture dealing with his arch nemesis that MIGHT be another long-lost brother. Who rules the world WOMEN (as Queen Bey herself says) or should I say Doctor Mrs. Monarch & her mysterious competitor as we have two strong women looking to take over the arching business while keeping détente with the OSI.
All of the storylines are tied with family rather than biological or found (created) and how they genuinely support each other. As they try to grow as people (some better than others), navigate a new normal after secrets are revealed in the final moments, how sometimes the search is just as important as what you find at the end.
Ohhh I want to tell all of you about who’s the Venture Boy’s mom is (no spoilers), how The Monarch and Doc Venture save each other’s lives, that the villains and heroes are different sides of the same coin, and how Dean and Hank get back to being brothers BUT like I said no spoilers. You’ll have to order the Blu-ray or stream to see how they end the 20-year-old series.
I can say they kept the razor-thin humor, adventure, violence, and sexy that we expected from the AS series. The original voice actors were joined by Jane Lynch (Glee) as Bobbi St. Simone who adds a significant twist <shh no spoiler>.
Film Synopsis:
Doc’s latest invention will either bankrupt Team Venture or launch them to new heights, as Hank searches for himself, Dean searches for Hank, The Monarch searches for answers, and a mysterious woman from their pasts threatens to bring their entire world crashing down on them.
Returning in their original series roles are James Urbaniak (The Fabelmans) as Dr. Venture, Patrick Warburton (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events) as Brock Samson, Michael Sinterniklaas (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Dean Venture, Chris McCulloch (Superjail!) as Hank Venture and Doc Hammer as Dr. Mrs. The Monarch.
Also featured in the voice cast are Nina Arianda (Being the Ricardos) as Mantilla, Clancy Brown (John Wick: Chapter 4) as Red Death, John Hodgman (Up Here) as Snoopy, Hal Lublin (Welcome to Night Vale) as Clayton, Jane Lynch (Glee) as Bobbi St. Simone, Charles Parnell (Top Gun: Maverick) as Jefferson Twilight, Jay Pharoah (Spinning Gold) as Nuno Blood, Steven Rattazzi (New Amsterdam) as Dr. Orpheus, JK Simmons (Whiplash) as Ben and Dana Snyder (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) as The Alchemist.
