Just in time for rewatching my favorite dysfunctional family and archnemesis on June 20, 2023 (My bday is in June if you’re asking what to give me). You can’t put a price on my accident-prone boys but if you must it’s $79.99 digital download and the stylish DVD box set is $134.99.
The beloved series created by Christopher McCulloch and Doc Hammer is a parody series that is a mashup of Silver Age comics and retro cartoons. I always considered it a more adult and deadly Johnny Quest that follows the Venture family. Dr. Thaddeus S. Venture (James Urabaniak), a grown-up boy adventurer turned sort of super-scientist without a moral compass, his twin sons Hank (McCulloch) and Dean (Michael Sinterniklaas) and super he-man bodyguard Brock Samson (Patrick Warburton) as they try to survive arching, failed experiences, luck, and deadly accidents. The series was on for seven seasons (about 14 years) after its premiere on Adult Swim in 2004 before its untimely cancellation in 2020. Happily, fans’ protests did not fall on deaf ears and fans will be able to see a series finale (direct to DVD). The synopsis of the series finale is that “Doc’s latest invention will either bankrupt the Ventures or launch them to new heights, as Hank searches for himself, Dean searches for Hank, The Monarch searches for answers, and a mysterious woman from their pasts threatens to bring their entire world crashing down on them.” As a long-time fan, I’m hoping we finally meet the woman who stole Dr. Ventures’ heart and left him a single father.
