I’ve been watching Teen Wolf since it first came on MTV and I was able to interview the cast at a Comic Con. Now I’m a casual fan so I dip my toe in and out of the series so I suppose I’m more of a binger. I’d stopped watching for awhile but saw the cast at the 2015 PaleyFest in Los Angeles and fell in love with the series all over again.
BUT I have a major issue with the ‘flirtation’ between Lydia and Parrish. Now they are both gorgeous people and the relationship has been a slowly building where at first I thought it was a high school girl crush but as season five has progressed it’s been very clear it’s a mutual attraction. Not an unspoken mutual attraction but almost dating now that would be no big deal since the show is a mix of high school students and the adults in their lives (parents, teachers, family friends, etc). I don’t remember in past seasons adults dating the high school characters but maybe I didn’t notice it as I crush pretty hard on Dylan & Tyler <hubbah hubbah>. But this season I find Lydia and Parrish problematic from the long lingering glances to the caresses between a high school senior and a adult man not a year so in age but big enough that in in real life he’d be arrested and likely charged. I know it’s a fantasy series where people are werewolves and have super powers but the fact that it’s treated ‘normally’ with no pushback or repercussions I can’t say how wrong the optics are since people (kids and fans) usually have a difficult time separating reality from TV shows.
