Soaring to Paley Fest for Round 2, I landed with a room full of eager Supergirl fans. The crowd ranged from children looking up to the cast to adults who just enjoy the show with many flaunting their Super gear.
The cast and creators were energized and playful with one another the entire time. They delved through questions ranging from the show’s feminist themes, what the apparent impact of the show meant to each actor, future villains, and the possibility of having more diversity inclusive of the LGBT community. Chyler Leigh (“Alex Danvers”) specifically spoke on the impact this show has had on her daughter and how positive a role model Supergirl is for her. She went on to say that she hopes it’s the same for many other children in the way that it is for her child.
After more than an hour of witnessing the near-familial bond of this cast from the constant jokes to Chyler Leigh’s and Melissa Benoist’s (“Kara Danvers/Supergirl”) declaration of intense admiration for one another, we were given an advanced screening of a not yet premiered episode that didn’t let a single person in the audience down by the loud cheers and applause at the end of the episode.
The future of Supergirl seems to only be able to go upward from here (as all the Supergirls in us hoped). Also, if you’d like to watch the entire panel for yourself, you can catch it on Hulu in its full form.
