SERIESFEST: PEACOCK’S “DR. DEATH” GETS SCREENING AND PANEL DISCUSSION

Spread the love

Day 6 of SeriesFest featured a screening of the premiere episode of Peacock’s Dr. Death, followed by a virtual panel discussion with the series’ cast and creative team.

Stars Christian SlaterJoshua Jackson, and AnnaSophia Robb were joined by Executive Producer/Showrunner Patrick Macmanus and Director Maggie Kiley to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the 8-part limited series which drops on the streamer July 15th.

Based on Wondery’s hit podcast, DR. DEATH is inspired by the terrifying true story of Dr. Christopher Duntsch (Joshua Jackson), a rising star in the Dallas medical community. Young, charismatic and ostensibly brilliant, Dr. Duntsch was building a flourishing neurosurgery practice when everything suddenly changed. Patients entered his operating room for complex but routine spinal surgeries and left permanently maimed or dead. As victims piled up, two fellow physicians, neurosurgeon Robert Henderson (Alec Baldwin) and vascular surgeon Randall Kirby (Christian Slater), as well as Dallas prosecutor Michelle Shughart (AnnaSophia Robb), set out to stop him. DR. DEATH explores the twisted mind of Dr. Duntsch and the failures of the system designed to protect the most defenseless among us.

Slater talked about his derailed plans to meet the real life Dr. Kirby, who he portrays. See the clip below.

In another highlight, Executive Producer Patrick Macmanus talked about the failure of the medical community to stop the real life Duntsch from committing his crimes.

Toward the end of the panel, Joshua Jackson commented on the medical community and what needs to change to prevent things like what happened with Dr. Duntsch from happening in the future.

SeriesFest, the annual television festival will continue to address this year’s theme, â€˜What’s Next?’ through July 11 with must-stream events including competition screenings, engaging panel discussions, one-of-a-kind workshops, as well as never-before-seen sneak peeks and television premieres.
