SDCC Hotel Hell and What We Learned

Spread the love

If you have ever stayed in a hotel during San Diego Comic Con, you’ll know that was a battle in and of itself just to get decent placement. Years ago, I remember the form opening up online and whoever entered their form the fastest, was able to get a decent downtown hotel.

Of course with any growth, changes have to com. The past few years have brought on OnPeak. An organization that handles all the hotel placements for SDCC. When the waiting room opens up, no one can truly know what to expect when their little walking man starts across the screen.

What to do?

Entering in the info of yourself and your hotel mates can be a daunting task. Once you get through that, you then have to choose up to 12 hotels that you all would like to stay in. Like most of the attendees, the downtown hotels are normally chosen first.

How do you ensure that your list is at the top? You can’t. Sadly, the mystery of the order and how you’re chosen will apparently remain a heavily guarded secret. Even if the form opens up at 10:00AM and you enter in at 10:01, you still might not get anything on your list. You also could enter at 10:09 and get the second choice on your list.

High Demand

While I miss the old days of having to be the fastest, I do understand that the way things were ran had to change. Due to so many people attending as patrons, guest, workers, actors, artists, vendors, etc. There had to be a change to keep up with the high demand.

So were we able to see a difference from how things were run last year? I personally did not see much of a change. I got in pretty late last year and was given a hotel far off from the convention center. This year, I got in at what I thought was a decent time, I got rejected.

How did you all fair in this sale? Do you think the system should go back to how it used to be? Or does it need a complete overhaul? Let us know down in the comments.
