It was a full house on Thursday when I saw the School of Rock Musical at the Pantages. The show is ending on May 27 and next will be heading to Denver, Colorado at the Buell Theater from May 29 – June 10. Check out School of Rock for dates near you!
Wow I had a blast! It was such fun talking to the kids about the national tour, singing and dancing, and their life on tour. I didn’t realize how much work they truly put in to the show till I saw it. The kids are actually playing their instruments on stage! They are all so talented and hardworking.
From the opening moment when Dewey comes out hamming it on the stage I was rolling laughing over the crazy song ‘I’m too sexy for you’ to when they go to the school and show everyone conforming to society to “Stick it to the Man”. This cast turned a classic 2000s movie into a broadway hit that surpasses all expectations. The strong display of talent was outstanding!
After being kicked out of No Vacancy, Dewey finds himself bandless, penniless, and friendless. Desperate for a change, he scams Rosalie Mullins and the Horace Green Prep School into thinking he is Ned, a real substitute teacher. He turns these uptight kids into rockstars, and help them realize they are talented individuals. While “Sticking it to the Man”, they secretly practice during class instead of receiving a standard education. Ned leaves a lasting impact on his students, Rosalie Mullins and the other Horace Green staff members, and the parents.
I had a blast watching them sing and dance! This is definitely a kid-centric musical that all ages would love. The show is high energy, catchy, upbeat, maybe even inspirational, and you will leave with a smile. School of Rock the Musical is definitely a favorite of mine.
You can still buy tickets to see the show at the Pantages here for School of Rock and the rest of the season. The next musical is going to be ‘The Color Purple’.
