Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys: The Big Lie
a new comic series from Simon & Schuster
The new series has reimagined the characters with Nancy as a tough broad and the Hardy Boys framed for murder. In this new series the teenage brothers Frank & Joe Hardy have been accused of murdering their father in the small resort town of Bayport. Nancy Drew takes charge to not only prove their innocent but find the real murderer in a story ripped out of a classic whodunit. The new adventures will have double-crosses, deceit, dames and drama that breathes fresh air into a series that will have old and new fans excited!
Anthony Del Col (Assassin’s Creed, Kill Shakespeare) and artist Werther Dell’Edera (Batman: Detective Comics, House of Mystery) were inspired by crime classics Ed Brubaker’s Fatale and Darwyn Cooke’s Parker series for a film noir asthetic from the days of Bette Davis who were tough as a man but still a woman with great gams! I grew up reading books from both series when I was a kid and they felt out of step for me since I’m more of a SciFi/Fantasy geek but my grandma gave them to me for Christmas one year ‘because I love books’. I felt obligated to read them but they just felt to old and 1940s so the idea of them being aged up and made into a film noir dark mystery is very appealing. I’m on the fence about how they have made Nancy an (I assume adult) femme fatale as opposed to just a tough detective but am willing to join this journey.
“I often come up with a lot of bizarre ideas, and two years ago I had this vision of a modern-day noir story with femme fatale Nancy Drew aiding accusing criminals the Hardy Boys,” says writer Anthony Del Col. “It was an idea that, upon further thought, actually wasn’t that bizarre. And now Werther, Dynamite, and I are using it as a launching pad to examine who these characters really are, and why they’re still so beloved.”
“We wanted to do a take on the iconic characters the world grew up on unlike any that had come before,” says Dynamite Entertainment CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci. “Anthony Del Col had a true passion for the source material that Werther Dell’Edera was able to bring through perfectly. This series does the characters justice, with a modern take that fits perfectly alongside Dynamite’s other popular crime titles!”
Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys: The Big Lie is slated for release in March. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies with their local comic book retailers. Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse and Dark Horse Digital.
