The new co-op focus platform fighter game MultiVersus dropped its open beta version for players this week, and the games developers and voice talent were on hand at Comic-Con International in San Diego to talk about the game with Cherry the Geek TV.
MultiVersus is a free-to-play crossover fighting game developed by Player First Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game features various characters within the Warner Bros. Discovery catalog, including those from Warner Bros., DC Comics, HBO, Turner Entertainment, and Cartoon Network.
We had a chance to chat with Scooby-Doo voice actor Matthew Lillard about his role as Shaggy in the game. Lillard played Shaggy in the live-action versions of Scooby-Doo and reprises his role here.
Lillard was giddy with excitement when he got his first look at the game earlier in the day. “It’s so cool! I knew I was in something that people were excited about, but I had never seen it. It looks amazing,” he said.
Lillard had shied away from the Shaggy role for years, but recently has come to embrace it. “I think what i love most is that there are kids ages five, six, and seven years old and there are also adults that both love the character as did previous generations. I love the fact that he’s been around for so long. He’s iconic, but also beloved.”
The MultiVersus game will allow players to see a different side of Shaggy. “You don’t often get to see Shaggy be violent very often, but he does kick ass,” teased Lillard. “His special move is…he hits people with a sandwich, which I think is amazing.”
And how will Shaggy’s sandwich hitting fare against opponents like Superman? “I think he’s going to kick Superman’s ass.”
