Life By Ella, a new series about a young middle-school girl who takes a new outlook on life after battling cancer, debuts on AppleTV+ this Friday. Tim Pollock and Jeff Hodsden, the two Executive Producers/Showrunners of Life By Ella– sat down with Cherry the Geek TV to discuss the show.

Life by Ella is a story about what comes next. For Ella (Lily Brooks O’Briant, “The Big Show Show”), a cancer survivor, that means putting her days of illness behind her and enjoying everything life has to offer. Given a second chance, she wants to live again, celebrating every moment, not taking anyone or anything for granted and never to be ruled by fear – of anything – ever again. And that first step is returning to school.
While her mother (Mary Faber, “Parks and Recreation”), a pragmatic professional holding down a full time job, thinks her daughter is up to the task, her father (Kevin Rahm, “Madam Secretary”), a stay-at-home dad, has his reservations. Having almost lost Ella, he’s now determined to (over-) protect her at all costs, though in his heart he realizes that his daughter is right. It’s time for her to live her life again. And her younger brother, the wise-cracking Grady (Aidan Wallace, “You”), couldn’t agree more. Feeling overshadowed by his older sister for his parents’ attention – along with everyone else’s – he can’t wait for things to return to something resembling ‘normal,’ again.
As Ella prepares for her first day back at Mission Middle School, she’s joined by her best friend Kai (Artyon Celestine, “Drama Club”), the one kid who was there for her when she was at her lowest and the one kid she knows will always have her back. Indeed, no one knows Ella better than Kai, as she quickly attempts to navigate her way back into the world, thankful to have him by her side.
