I was just emailing my friend that adulthood isn’t what we thought it was going to be. Like most of my friends I did what was expected or I should say ‘supposed’ to do (as my parent’s told me ALL the time growing up). That I should go to college, be ‘good’, get married/have a family, have a job and just be a responsible member of society.
But life isn’t what I thought it was going to be despite walking the straight and narrow waiting for my ‘reward’. I’m still single and looking and focusing on a new career direction because of the economy/technology. Now I’m not complaining since my skill with communication, social media and passion for always embracing changing.
It’s just that life isn’t what I expected or planned. Back in college I had planned to go to college, graduate with a degree in political science, working on the Hill and return to Iowa to run for office (lofty goals). Instead after living in Washington, DC for a year I fell in love with the bright lights, hustle and bustle of the big city. So I never looked back!
Living in the big city for me has always been a fun life. Interesting friends, jobs that speak to me and still thinking that ‘one day’ my prince will come. Sadly my prince hasn’t come (not that I’ve given up) but realize that I need to let go of my childish daydreams. Live life as it is and work towards new goals.
Hmm what is that you may ask???? Well it’s getting in shape and making a lifestyle change with food/working out. If you’ve known me for the past three years I’ve been on this journey and am not giving it up. It’s working but just seems to take a while. But it’s all part of my plan for being the ‘me’ of my dreams. So make sure you keep checking out my workout videos, tweets and blogs.
I hope that anyone else who’s interested in getting fit takes my words to heart. No matter how frustrating it maybe getting fit (notice I didn’t say skinny or look like a model) and looking your best will make you happy. It also helps ALOT with dating!
