It Started With a List is the first in a series by Tinia Montford. The story follows college senior, Vassa Blackwell. Follow along as she navigates upcoming graduation, friendship perils and a crush she has to tutor that is surprisingly different than she thought. Lazarus Gilbert is the star of the baseball team. He also happens to be the popular boy that every girl wants to date. The downside to his senior year, is he is failing English class. Lazarus is the last person that Vassa would want to spend any time with. When he asks her to tutor him so he can stay on the baseball team and not disappoint his overbearing older brother. Laz makes a deal with Vassa after he discovers she has a College Send Off List.
The List
Laz tells Vassa he will help fulfil this list if she helps him in English. Vassa begrudgingly agrees because she knows Lazarus knows how to have fun. Even though he spent many of their college years picking on her. They both soon discover that not only did they both have crushes on each other, but they bring out the best in each other.
With graduation looming closer and grad school calling her name, will Vassa complete her list in time? This book was a cute read that had me swooning in parts. Vassa is relatable as someone just starting out dating and learning how to be out in bigger settings and being a girlfriend. One of the tropes that I really enjoyed in this novel is the GrumpxSunshine because Vassa is the Grump!
Thank you so much Tinia Montford for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest book review. Be sure to check out the next book set in this universe, It Started with a Dance. The cover for that one is just as awesome!
