I saw the Cirque Du Soleil show Iris – A Journey through the World of Cinema

Spread the love

I attended the Cirque Du Soleil production of Iris and was BLOWN away by the production!  It was so great that it made me want to learn more about the production and just how they made the show.  So I went to their youtube channel and found the story behind Iris.

I have to say that I LOVE movies but this play was unlike anything I’ve ever seen it was picture, life, music, color, athleticism, passion, words, comedy, action, drama and everything in between.  Everything worked together to make this an experience that will take you back to childhood and seeing movies for the first time.  I was transported to another world where I felt like I was on a roller coaster.  Their was so much to see that I couldn’t take it all in because of the sheer beauty of the set and cast.  The play opens simply with a screen and a man and it ends with a storm of light, sound, color and well joy!

Make sure you come early so that you can enjoy the mini performance befor the start of the show.   A few select members of the case will be on the stage as well as out in the audience so that you can see them up close.  It’s sort of like a preview of what is to come for your viewing pleasure!  The orchestra is up in the balcony and not only play beautifully but also really ads to the performance by interacting with the cast!  The music doesn’t overpower the show instead it flows with it to make the audience (me and my friend) laugh and brought attention to the vignettes that interweaves throughout the show.  I loved the gymnastics and how it was used to define the characters to being the sassy tall woman with attitude and the lovesick puppy Buster who mooned over the lovely Scarlett!  It was very romantic, fun and lots of action!  Not one slow moment in the entire show!  I couldn’t get over the aerial performers who came out and performed part of the story in such a way that it felt like a 3D movie!  There was so much to see that I recommend seeing the show at least twice so that the first time you will look at the all the action on the stage with the live performers and videos.  Than the second show you can look at the musicians performing in the balcony and the aerial performers.  The costumes are beautiful; the cast is so athletic and graceful that I fell in love.  Heck let’s be honest you could see this show ten times and still see something new!

Mr. Philippe Decouflé is creative genius and I don’t know how he came up with this great play but he should win a Nobel Peace Prize!  I left the theatre happy and full of life!!  I so want to see the other shows in the next year and will post reviews of them!  I am hoping to interview Mr. Philippe Decouflé the next time he comes to LA or maybe I’ll go to him!! I have been planning on visiting Canada and would love to see some of the other shows!
