Anyone want to listen to a great lyrics over a beer .. OK not a beer I prefer Tequila but you know what I mean. I’m single and need to get to dating and I think this might be a good way to while away a Thursday afterwork with friends. Maybe I’ll meet some new friends, a dance partner or find someone to flirt with!
“…here is a songwriting master craftsman in action. Brilliant stuff” – Country Music People, U.K.
“Stephen- I like your stuff. Hope you can make a living doing this. Lots of fun, and beats working!” – Tom T. Hall
“I just got around to listening to [A Bakersfield Dozen] last night…and it is awesome! Well done! When’s the next one?” – Robert Price, Editorial page editor at The Bakersfield Californian, author of “The Bakersfield Sound”
“There has been some use of the word “poet” in conjunction with Stephen David Austin, and I’m not sure that’s fair. Those who want REAL poetry may feel let down and those who hate poetry will be missing out. If it’s poetry, it’s Hank Williams poetry. It’s plain-spoken rural poetry, which I think is a harder stunt to perform and more fun to listen to.” – Grant Langston, Southland Serenade
“…an immensely talented creator and performer of a fresh helping of roots Americana…by a newcomer who could be on the national radar soon.” – Ken Rosenbaum, The Toledo Blade
“…when the tunes are this good, complexities are no longer necessary.” – Baby Sue, Chatanooga, TN
“So left of center, it’s a must for subversive alt.country fans that like seeing the envelope pushed so far it tears.” – Chris Spector, The Midwest Record
“Stephen David Austin has an eye that is hardwired to his pen.” – Danny McCloskey, The Alternate Root
“[Austin] comes at The Bakersfield Sound from left field. Influenced equally by Owens and Haggard, The Blasters, and The Beat Farmers, he writes blue collar Americana poetry with a recurring theme of “’you can’t go home again’” – John Conquest, 3rd Coast Music, Austin, TX
“Wading through the many fine licks here one eventually finds his lyrics which are certainly a notch above what one expected. [Austin comes] across like a Telecaster wielding Randy Newman.” – Paul Kerr, Blabber ‘N Smoke, Glasgow, Scotland
“…a cocktail of catchy tunes, frequently playful lyrics and twangy guitar.” – Net Rhythms, U.K.
“…conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition…
The world…can never forget what they did here.”
-Abraham Lincoln, The Gettysburg Address, Gettysburg, PA
