Rick Riordan and producers Jon Steinberg & Dan Shotz bring the book to life
I’m vaguely familiar with Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series from the movies since I’d never read the books. I do have a decent grasp on Greek mythology from my teen years but Rick did a bit of modern reimagining. So I was very excited to ask the young stars and producers about the new series. Watching them shows the great chemistry and their excitement is infectious!
I enjoyed the first two episodes that explained Percy living with his mum who has a big secret, and his friend and teacher all whom know more than they should. The three kids begin to get to know each other once Percy finds out he’s a half-blood and isn’t safe out in the world. They quickly begin to create a bond between Percy and Leah while Grover gets a little side eye and needs to work his way back. Even if you are not familiar with the books or Greek mythology they do a good job teasing about the God’s.
I like that they have decided to cast kids so they can grow with the characters and that it’s an inclusive cast including the background actors.
It’s made for teens and adults who are kids at heart but it’s family-friendly so great for all ages. From the wondrous mythical creatures, the fight scenes, and his quest it will keep me tuning in every Wednesday to see who they will battle next, and learn more about their powers and adventure as they traverse the human and mythical worlds.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Percy Jackson is on a dangerous quest. Outrunning monsters and outwitting gods, he must journey across America to return Zeus’ master bolt and stop an all-out war. After losing his mother, Percy is sheltered at Camp Half-Blood, a sanctuary for demigod children. He must prove himself and confront his origins once he discovers he too is a demigod and will take off into the perils of pursuing enemies in search of the Underworld. With the help of his quest mates Annabeth and Grover, Percy’s journey will lead him closer to the answers he seeks: how to fit into a world where he feels out of place if he’ll ever see his mother again, and if he can ever find out who he’s destined to be.
