It’s so funny but I’m watching the USA series Suits episode Rewind and it reminded me of the old me. You know the one in your twenties that you constantly clicked with men (if your a heterosexual woman). I’m looking back and wondering what was different about me. Was it my youth? The beauty I didn’t see in myself? Or the confidence I had after graduating from college and living in the big city? Or could it just have been in your twenties a lot of people are single, looking to date, open to new experiences and of course on the cusp of the rest of their lives.
Or maybe that I’m meeting men in their mid 30s to early 50s that are creating a different mindset. Since they are in a different point of their lives as a large portion are divorced, usually kids, looking for women 20 years younger or are (like me) never married. In our society we are looked at as ‘terminally single’ if not outright defective! I’m hoping with my new mindset the ‘clicking’ opportunity will increase since I’m truly back on the market for the first time in years. So am back to being social and going out to events. Looking to fish in the right pool for my ideal type so am looking in educated rich environs for my man. I’m not totally giving up on online dating but am not happy with the guys I’ve been meeting online. They usually don’t fit my stated criteria but I decide to give them a chance for a spark of interest. It just isn’t working since the men I’ve met lately just aren’t able to hold my intellectual interest. I know it makes me sound like a bit of an educational snob but I like to talk about current events, politics, the economy, business and even technology since a lot of topics strike my fancy. Usually men don’t like it when I seem too ‘smart’ and I will no longer dumb myself down to avoid a fight.
I am a woman who has lots of opinions and I love to share my opinions. I feel healthy debate is great for a relationship and am fine with people in my life who don’t agree with me politically as long as we can talk about the issues I’m happy as a clam. I just can’t imagine living my life with someone who’s idea of a great night is to watch nothing but get all their information from Fox news it will drive me nuts!
I know that someone will appreciate the dichotomy of me a smart fashionable geek! I’m someone who watches Anime, loves Cartoon Network/Adult Swim, loves science fiction, couldn’t live without the SyFy, channel, big fan of Rachel Maddow, MSNBC junkie, reads the New York Times/Washington Post/Wall Street Journal/Black Enterprise/Allure/Essence/Latina and lives to attend Science Fiction/Comic Conventions.
