I love true crime and am FASCINATED by serial killers
I wish I’d been able to see the premier earlier today at SXSW Film Festival of the new documentary series focusing on how inherent bias, racism and gender (and I think class) in the criminal justice system affects how victims are treated from certain communities.
Oscar®-nominated and Emmy®-winning filmmaker Joe Berlinger five-episode series premieres on Sunday, April 18 on STARZ across all platforms and network at 9PM ET/PT.
It’s the connection between acclaimed New York Times best-selling author and memoirist Jillian Lauren (‘Some Girls: My Life in a Harem’) and Samuel Little, the most prolific serial killer in American history. Who targeted victims of choice (poor, Black, sex workers) allowed him to murder with impunity for decades since they weren’t women the justice system saw as victims or cared about. The documentary tells how Jillian searches to solved cold case murders to give the families peace to learn what happened to mothers, sisters, cousins, and friends as she also explores her own history of addiction and abuse. As she spends more time speaking and investigating Samuel she has to keep herself from falling under his manipulation honed by his ‘skill’ to be a part of a community that he sees as his own personal hunting ground.
