The 2021 Academy Awards are right around the corner, and Elvira Lind, the writer/director of one of this year’s amazing Oscar Nominated Live-Action short films, “The Letter Room“, sat down with Cherry the Geek TV to discuss her film.
“The Letter Room” stars Lind’s husband Oscar Isaac (Star Wars Episodes 7-9, Inside Llewyn Davis, Marvel’s Moon Knight, Dune) as a corrections officer named Richard who is assigned to a new job in his prison’s mail room. His job is to screen all of the incoming mail before it can be delivered to the inmates. During his work, he slowly starts to become emotionally invested in the prisoners’ personal lives. The film also stars Search Party and Arrested Development actress Alia Shawkat, John Douglas Thompson, Brian Petsos, and Eileen Galindo.
“The Letter Room” is the first narrative film from Lind, whose previous work was in the form of short and feature length documentaries. She discusses her transition to narrative filmmaking, and working with husband Oscar Isaac, as well as what it felt like when she found out the film was nominated for an Oscar.
“The Letter Room” is available to rent on Topic.com or can also be seen in the 2021 Oscar Nominated Live-Action Short Film Block screening in select theaters and available to rent on VOD. The 93rd Academy Awards will be held on ABC on Sunday, April 25th.
