CHERRY THE GEEK TV-INTERVIEW: “RRR” COMPOSER/”NAATU, NAATU” SONGWRITER M.M. KEERAVAANI TALKS GOLDEN GLOBES WIN, OSCAR HOPES

Spread the love

M.M. Keeravaani, songwriter of Naatu, Naatu, from the global sensation RRR, our pick for the best film of 2022, has had an eventful week. He won the Golden Globe for “Best Original Song” last Tuesday and then over the weekend won “Best Score” from the LA Film Critics Association, and “Best Original Song” at the Critics Choice Awards. (The award wins have helped to put Keeravaani as the front runner in the Oscar race for Best Original Song, with Oscar nomination voting currently happening over the next week or so.) He attended a sold out screening of RRR at the Chinese Imax theater in Los Angeles along with director S.S. Rajamouli, and stars Ram Charan and N.T. Rama Rao, Jr. He and Rajamouli also got to rub shoulders with icons Steven Spielberg and James Cameron, who both praised RRR. He also took the time to chat with us at Cherry the Geek TV about the song and film. You can watch the full interview by clicking on the link below:

From an original story by V. Vijayendra Prasad, the historical action epic RRR (short for Rise, Roar, Revolt) follows the fictionalized paths of real-life freedom fighters Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao) as they come together in 1920s Delhi to battle the nefarious British Raj for the rescue of a kidnapped girl from Bheem’s tribe.

Reuniting Rajamouli with his established team of craftspeople (including composer M.M. Keeravani, director of photography K.K. Senthil Kumar, film editor A. Sreekar Prasad, production designer Sabu Cyril, costume designer Rama Rajamouli, and visual effects supervisor V. Srinivas Mohan), RRR began production in Hyderabad in Southern India beginning in November 2018 and wrapped in August 2021 (with additional scenes shot in Ukraine and Bulgaria) after several disruptions halted filming due to COVID-19. With a budget of $72 million, it’s the most expensive Indian production to date.

RRR is currently available to stream on Netflix.
