Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry was born on August 19th, 1921 which makes this Thursday his Centennial birthday! To celebrate, Cherry the Geek TV spoke to Gene’s son, Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, about his father’s legacy, the current state of Star Trek, and Rod’s #ThinkTrek initiative that was created by Rod and his team this year to celebrate his father’s ideals.
Rod, the CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment, has devoted his life to carrying on his father’s legacy, and his radical vision of a diverse and inclusive world – which Gene depicted through the philosophy he imbued in Star Trek, including a cast with a multi-ethnic crew and putting one of the first inter-racial kisses on the TV screen. Additionally, he previously narrated and executive produced the documentary TrekNation, where he explored the positive impact of his father’s iconic franchise has had on people’s lives.
The #ThinkTrek initiative is made up of many activations and initiatives and can be found here: https://www.roddenberry.com/thinktrek/. This includes #talkTrek, #seeTrek, #beTrek, and #makeTrek.
