Cherry the Geek TV spoke with Bruce Boxleitner on the red carpet at the 51st Annual Saturn Awards about his return as John Sheridan in the new animated film Babylon 5:The Road Home.
“I had to do it,” said Boxleitner referring to returning to voice the character that he originated on Babylon 5 thirty years ago. “We needed to do it to honor the actors and actresses who were on Babylon 5 that are no longer with us. It was exciting to get something new out. The original series just came out on Blu-ray–finally. Babylon 5 is especially dear to me because it’s something I joined late after the first season. I came aboard and carried it on from there with some of the best actors I could ever hope to work with–and the best writing that I have experienced on television.”
Boxleitner also reflected on the friendship with his Tron and Bring ‘Em Back Alive co-star Cindy Morgan, who sadly passed away in December. “Forty three years I knew this woman. We did Comic-Cons together and personal appearances. We had just done the official press opening for the Tron Lightcycle Run at Walt Disney World. Cindy was there in Orlando. We were the ones they trotted out. It was great. I feel so bad. I had just talked to her maybe a week before she passed. It’s just tragic. It saddens me greatly because she was a big part of my career.”
Speaking of Tron, the third film Tron:Ares just went into production. Boxleitner says he is not involved but thinks it’s great that the Tron story is continuing. “I think it’s wonderful. After forty two or forty three years–whatever it’s been–it’s time for a new generation and I encourage that and I’m all about it. It’s fine. Jared Leto (who is starring) seems to have a passion for it. i hope it’s a terrific movie because I want Tron to carry on.”
