Announced from Rick Riordan himself, Walker Scobell is the new Lightning Thief! Fans of the five book series, and the spinoff series, have been eagerly awaiting casting news since Riordan made the announcement for the new Disney+ series.
Riordan was transparent with fans from the start and let them know that he will be working closely on the show with the direction and writing. Many fans over the years have let their feelings be known about the 2010 and 2013 adaptation. While The Lightning Thief was a commercial success, it was met with a lot of mixed reviews. Especially from diehard fans of the book series.
Walker Scobell delighted audiences in his debut for Netflix’s The Adam Project. Alongside Hollywood heavyweights, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner and Zoe Saldana. Scobell held his own and nailed a young Ryan Reynolds. Riordan, whose new book Daughter of the Deep, sang the praises for Scobell being cast and has admitted that Walker has chemistry read with auditioners for Annabeth and Grover.
One of the many complaints book fans usually have is hair color of the characters. Alexandra Daddario, who portrayed Annabeth, sported her natural brunette hair. Annabeth in the books is a blonde. For the sequel, her hair was dyed. Pictured above is a fan edit of what Walker would look like with darker hair. Since Percy is not a blonde, it is assumed his hair will be dyed a darker color.
Are you all excited for the new series!? Who would your casting choices be for Annabeth and Grover? It would be amazing if they are able to cast original Percy Jackson actor, Logan Lerman, as Posidan (aka Percy’s dad) or in a role close to Scobell. Stay tuned for more casting news and for any new developments for the new series.
