Nikatyu Jusu had me at supernatural horror

Like many virtual attendees, I’ve been looking at the Sundance Film Festival schedule and when I saw the image for the Nanny I found it incredibly intriguing. After reading the description and watching Ms. Jusu’s Meet the Artists interview I have added it to my Must See list at Sundance. I look forward to streaming with the lights off, buttered popcorn, and soda. I hope my neighbors don’t worry when I scream and try to save the nanny from the supernatural creature haunting her while trying to destroy her American dream.

I am a major sci-fi/fantasy nerd that likes to dip her toe into horror and Nanny starring Anna Diop (Us, Teen Titans) looks like an interesting horror told through the eyes of a Black woman and mother. Included in the cast are Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Spector (HOMELAND), and Tony® and Emmy® Award-winner Leslie Uggams.

Aisha (Anna Diop) is an undocumented nanny working for a privileged couple (Michelle Monaghan and Morgan Spector) in New York City. As she prepares for the arrival of the son she left behind in Senegal, a violent supernatural presence invades her reality, threatening the American dream she is painstakingly piecing together.
