Review of the film Sedona
I just got back from seeing the new independent film called Sedona at the Hollywood Film Festival. It’s a new charming, inspirational, quirky, feelgood, magical and mystical adventure about finding miracles. I saw this film and was pleased at the intricacy of the story and plot. Tammy is a go getter A type personality woman who’s set aside a personal life for success in the male dominated field of advertising. On her way to a huge business opportunity she crosses path with a young family with two sons. Throughout the day she meets people who teach her about living life rather in the moment, accepting change or just allowing yourself to let down your guard. Each person touches her life and wears down her defenses. It’s a parallel story with Seth who’s a man that’s so focused on being successful that he failing his family. Tammy and Seth are two sides of the same coin of working really hard to have things but are things truly important? That’s the question this film has and as you follow their journey as they figure out what they is true value.
The cast was first rate and had great chemistry. It was so nice to see a movie that’s not a remake, that is thoughtful and doesn’t rely on FX or 3D to get a connection with the audience. I recommend that you keep an eye for this film to come to your hometown independent theater and go see it. You’ll LOVE this film as much as I did. It was heartwarming, funny, touching and just fun. It really made me want to visit Sedona to see the beautiful city and meet the quirky people.
I really enjoyed this film and even shed a few tears at the ending that came as a big surprise. The film is beautiful showing me the rich red and lush greenery that is Sadona. Tommy Stovall, Writer/Director/Producer wrote the HECK out of this movie with great lines, fun quirky character based on real people, great one liners and the grounded reality of being an adult. The characters were well rounded and made ‘sense’. Rudy Harbon, Director of Photography made the city come alive for me and makes me yearn to hike the mountains! Ebony Tay was the Producer and Composer for the film. She was inspired to use Indian Tribes and local Sedona musicians for the soundtrack of the film.
I attended the premiere party after the film was screened at the Arclight Hollywood on Friday, October, 21, 2011. I was super excited to meet Seth Peterson who stars in one of my favorite USA shows ‘Burn Notice’ AND got to meet my first crush (as a kid) Christopher Atkins of Blue Lagoon Fame.
Two inspiring stories of self-discovery intertwine over a day in mystical Sedona. One follows successful advertising executive Tammy (Frances Fisher) on her birthday as she drives from Portland to Phoenix to land the biggest client of her career. A wrong turn gets her lost and takes her into Sedona by mistake, where a local tour plane runs her off the highway right in the middle of town during an emergency crash landing. She’s forced to wait in Sedona while her damaged car is repaired.
Across town, uptight lawyer Scott (Seth Peterson), vacationing with his partner Eddie (Matthew J. Williamson) and their two young sons Denny (Trevor Sterling Stovall), Jeremy (Rand Schwenke), embarks on a family day hike out in the forest among the majestic red rocks. Eddie has brought workaholic Scott to Sedona for some rest and relaxation. They wind up in an unexpected frightening adventure out on the hiking trails when their 7-year-old Denny gets lost. The ensuing frantic search for the little boy sends Scott into a profound life-changing journey that forces him to examine his priorities and determine what’s truly important in life.
Meanwhile, Tammy unwittingly begins a spiritual transformation of her own as she encounters an array of quirky locals, each touching her in different meaningful ways. A string of bizarre coincidences spirals her out of control, leaving her haunted by her past and forcing her to face her demons head on. Letting her guard down, she confronts the implausible possibility that she has been brought to Sedona for a greater purpose.
