Geek Travel to Paris!
<sigh> if you’re lucky enough to be heading to or near Paris you MUST check out the ‘Superheroes’ exhibition opening on March 5th  at the Mona Bismarck Center in Paris.  The Superheroes exhibit will be open until June 15, 2014 that will have 75 works by Alex Ross.  Mr. Ross has won seven consecutive Comic Buyer’s Guide awards for his interpretation of iconic comic book characters from Wonder Woman to the Joker that have his philosophy permeating throughout.  He wants to have them grounded in reality, with dignity, competency and … well being sexy!  He’s influenced by many artists including Norman Rockwell and J.C. Leyendecker who created over 320 Saturday Evening Post covers.  His 1999 lithography shows the Joker dancing with Harley Quinn in homage to the Leyendecker Jazz Age portrait of a couple dancing.  As you can see he enjoys using pencils, paint and infrequently an airbrush for his art.  He chooses to not use the more contemporary digital style tools since he’s not a tech kind of guy but he is an artist using a medium accessible to the general public .. comic books and graphic novels. Now if you’re not able to fly off to Paris in your invisible jet with Wonder Woman you can check out tour of the 2013 DC Comics We can be Heroes Exhibit at SDCC and the 2012 Batman Dark Knight Exhibit at LA Live on YouTube.
During Superheroes: The Art of Alex Ross, the Mona Bismarck American Center galleries are open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, 11 AM – 6 PM. Closed on national holidays.
