Adrienne Barbeau had a great run in the early 1980s, starring in some of the biggest genre films directed by some of the film industry’s genre masters–John Carpenter, Wes Craven, and George Romero. She appeared in the Carpenter classics The Fog and Escape From New York, was the lead in Craven’s Swamp Thing, and starred in the most popular segment of Romero’s horror anthology Creepshow.
Cherry the Geek TV caught up with Barbeau at Planet Comicon Kansas City and asked her why she thought those films struck a chord and have endured as classics for 40+ years. “I think they’re well made,” she said. “People come up to me and tell me they watch The Fog once a month or it’s their favorite horror film. There may have been a difference in product in those days because there was more story and more character development and less ‘Let’s kill six people in the first three minutes of the movie when we don’t even know who they are.’ I think you (as viewers) cared a little more.”
Barbeau added that she feels very fortunate to have gotten to work with three horror film masters. “All three were excellent to work with as evidenced by their work.”
