Where Wolf, a new graphic novel from creative team Rob Saucedo, Debora Lancianese, and Jack Morelli, is being released tomorrow July 7, 2023 from Encyclopocalypse Publications. Cherry the Geek TV caught up with writer Saucedo as he was on tour promoting the book while showing classic werewolves films at movie theaters across the country. We talked about the origin of the the graphic novel, his love of werewolf films, and how those films plus things like Gregory Mcdonald’s Fletch books and the TV show Kolchak:The Night Stalker influenced the story.
“Where Wolf is the story of a reporter that has to go undercover at a Furry convention to stop a werewolf from eating all of the attendees,” Saucedo explained. “It’s my love letter to the werewolf genre.”
Saucedo says his love of werewolf films started with The Monster Squad. “It’s a movie that is meant for children but that movie scared the crap out of me as a kid. I had to watch the second half of that movie from behind the couch with my eyes covered. But it installed this great love of werewolves inside of me. I followed that up with Silver Bullet, An American Werewolf in London, and The Howling.”
Saucedo said that he checked out a scientific textbook about werewolves out at the library when he was a child. He remembered reading that one way to turn into a werewolf is to drink water out of a wolf’s paw. “There were no wolves in Texas where I grew up but I found a dog’s footprint and poured water in it and drank it. I didn’t become a werewolf but I also didn’t get sick, so I consider that a win.”
