I listened to the ‘Good Dog, Bad Cop’ audiobook and enjoyed it. It’s a classic throwback to the gumshoe detective and his gal pal solving crimes, and facing danger, with a cold case twist and a retired police dog.
Retired detectives Corey Douglas, Laurie Collis, K-9 Simon Garfunkle, and Marcus Clark are the perfect mix of brain, brawn, and sharp teeth as Capt. Pete Stanton hires them to work cold cases. Corey wants to look into the death of his friend/mentor PPD Det. Jimmy Dietrich and Susan Avery that was ruled a murder-suicide which doesn’t sit right with him. Good Dog, Bad Cop takes the listener/reader on a wild car chase with dead ends as a local murder expands to espionage and the Feds get involved.
I found the premise intriguing and a great listen as I tried to figure out why the bodies were dropping and how they tied into the cold case. It’s hard to make a case when witnesses disappear and end up dead. But the humans and Simon keep sniffing out clues till they end up at the wrong end of a gun.
I won’t give away the surprising end that kept me guessing but I found it to be an enjoyable mystery.
